The competition for the 2021 Ballon d'Or was perhaps the most competitive in previous years. There are a number of reasons for that at the moment the winner of the award has already been determined and we will tell you everything that is already known. First, France football magazine selects and publishes a list of 30 contenders for the award then journalists, head coaches and captains of the national teams which are under the FIFA jurisdiction determine the winner by voting.

The player whom they put in the first place will receive five points, the second one gets three and the third one just one point. The points from all voting participants are then added together, and the player with the greatest amount of points deserves an award.

Let's see of course there's Leo Messi, the Argentinian had a phenomenal individual last season with Barcelona and we can see what the catalans look like now that he has left the team. And of course, he won Copa America so Leo was the favorite from the start.

For several years, Robert Lewandowski has been moving closer to winning the glory. Nothing seemed to be standing in his way of winning it in 2020, but because to Covid 19, France Football cancelled the award event entirely. This year is also a good one for Robert and some of the voting participants could vote for him for two years in aggregate which has its logic. 

Chelsea and team Italy midfielder "Jorginho" is also among the contenders thanks to the team's successes after all he's the only player who has won both the hero and the champions league as part of his teams. While being a key player of course his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or are slightly lower than those of the rest but the their effect of getting into this shock list can be considered a success.




Kareem Benzema has blossomed even more after Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid and he is having an amazing year in recent months. The Frenchman has been actively named among the contenders for the award. In addition, Kareem has been brought back to the France national team and he already managed to win the nation's.

League visit Mohamed Salah burst into the race with his crazy shake. This season, it is the egyptian who is called the best player in the world right now but it's not clear whether that is enough to compete for the ballon d'or. The voting stop on monday the 25th october. So the winner of the award has already been determined his name will be officially announced at the awards ceremony in Paris on November 29th.

Leo was followed by Karim Benzema who received 26 percent of the votes, the third place was taken by Robert Lewandowski was 11%. It should be highlighted too, that the votes were mostly cast by Spanish.. So a certain percentage of voters might be biased. However in general the alignment is clear.
